The next book you need to write is Conservative Comebacks to Republican Lies

My biggest fear is that after we suffer through all of this Obama the Republicans will put up another Bush/McCain type that of course Conservatives will rush to support because we hate Obama so much.

But what will that gain us?

Look at the trend we have seen since Reagan. Liberal Republican (Bush 4 years) Liberal Democrat (Clinton 8), Liberal Republican (Bush 8) and Liberal Democrat (4 or 8?)

Please never let your listeners forget while yeah Obama is enacting socialism, George W Bush started it!

Another Liberal Republican isn’t the answer. The only thing that will save us and the only thing I will vote for is another Reagan.

The Republicans can’t depend on my hatred of Obama to make me run back to them. Of course I only speak for myself, no doubt most conservatives will regardless of who they put up. After all look at how many conservatives supported McCain.

The Republicans use our hate to enslave us. Not saying our hatred of the Democrats isn’t well deserved, I am just saying we have to stop allowing the Republicans to use our hate to enslave us.

  2. Jake Says:

Oh, that happy face, it wasn’t an happy face. It was the number 8. Don’t know why it showed up that way as of course we shouldn’t be happy about Bush as while Obama might be giving us socialism now, Bush started it with his bailout!!!!

I have heard it from Republican after Republican 2008 was a bad year. I should clarify that by saying NOW I hear it as last year while they were drinking the kool-aid I knew it was going to be a bad year, from the beginning of the year (heck I knew half way through 2007) while they were spewing the Republican line (or I should say lie).

But now what they mean by 2008 was a bad year is that it is going to all turn around for them when Obama’s policies fail. They don’t have to change themselves one bit. There is no lessons for them to learn. 2008 was a bad year. 2010 will be better.

I kind of agree with the thinking to a point. It is why I didn’t vote for McCain (didn’t vote for Obama either). But where I differ is I don’t think that Republicans will be able to capitalize on Obama’s failure by not changing. I for one felt very betrayed and despite whatever Obama will do which will no doubt be bad, at this point of the Republican party stays as it is, I will not vote. I am tired of the pattern that we have gotten stuck in since Reagan where through Republican administrations AS WELL as Democratic we have lost more freedom and have gone further into socialism. During the next for years we must remember at least the bailout policies that Obama has engaged in is just a continuation of Bush’s policies. Bush started it!

And I am not sure that the right lessons are being learned by the Republicans. After all it wasn’t JUST because Carter was so bad that the Republicans won. It was Reagan. It wasn’t just because Clinton was so bad that we got a Republican Congress (for all the good that did). It took the Contract with America.

The Republicans have lost the trust of the public. They have lost the trust of the grassroots and they have done nothing to acknowledge that, try to make amends for that, or change in any way. You are right Jake, they are depending on my hatred for Obama alone to drive me back in their hands and who will be there? Will it be Romney. Sorry, for me Anyone But Obama will not be enough of a message for me to get me to support Republicans again. Somehow they are going to have to win back the trust that they have lost and up to this point shown no sign of winning back.

So, will ABO (anything but Obama) be enough for your audience to go GOP next time around? Can the Republicans count on our hatred alone to make us support them?

  4. Steve Says:

In a simple one line bumpersticker statement – I will not let my hate make me vote GOP.

The GOP can’t keep on providing the low character candidates the have been providing and expect me to shut up and support them because they are ABO (anyone but Obama). In fact, if faced with the horrible choice (as I was in 2008) of a Liberal Democrat or a RINO, I would indeed rather have the Liberal Democrat because that person can never stab you in the back and when they fail it is quite clear who and what is failing. When a RINO falls ironically and falsely the blame goes in the opposite direction than it should. After all how many have said that this whole credit crisis was a “failure in capitalism” since it happened on Bush’s watch and we all know how conservative he is (yeah, sure). When socialist policies engaged in by Republicans fail the failure is always placed on “conservativism” At least when Obama’s policies fail the blame will be placed in the correct direction.

But getting me back to my main point, the Republicans are depending upon my hate alone to make me vote GOP next time around. And yeah, I am sure that I am going to justifiably hate Obama next time around, but my hatred is going to be tempered by the acknowledgment that lots of the stuff I hate him for are just policies that he continued from Bush. Republicans have been responsible for Affirmative Action, getting us off the Gold Standard, the appointment of liberal judges, runaway spending under a Republican Congress, and all kinds of things over the years that have made me totally lose trust for them.

So sure, yeah I will agree with their sure to be campaign theme, “Obama’s bad” for that is of course a given. But the real question for me is why should I trust the GOP when they have been betraying me my whole life? For me the next election will be like that theme from CSI-Miami – “I won’t be fooled again.”

But I see it so clearly that for most conservatives it will be just Obama’s bad (which of course I don’t disagree with, it’s an obvious statement) so lets support Mitt or Ruddy or another one of “our guys” (or the irony of that statement). It will be a campaign totally on what we hate and not what we are for. And therefore even if we are successful (I don’t think we will be on a campaign based only upon we hate Obama) we will soon be back to where we were at the end of 2008. We will have another failed RINO Presidency leading to a Socialist Democrat one.

No, for me I will not allow my hatred to make me vote Republican. But I feel I speak for only but a few conservatives. Most conservatives will let their hatred (justified hatred) of Obama drive them and they will not care if their candidate is a RINO or not as long as they defeat Obama.

Well, for me it’s NOT ABO. TO me it’s give me a RINO and they can forget about getting my support regardless of how often and how loudly they talk about the truth about Obama.

They have lost my trust. And at least right now they are not doing anything to win it back. That is why what is most important to me the next few years is not what Obama does but what the GOP does or doesn’t do. That will determine whether there is any hope for the future out there. That is what we need to focus on. Not Obama.

Any person (eg. Ann Colter) who spends most of their time telling me something I already know (Obama’s bad) will lose my attention quickly. I don’t care to hear that Obama’s bad. I know that. What I care about is how do the GOP regain my trust. How do they dispel my belief proved through George Bush and the Republican Congress that the GOP isn’t much different? Focus on Obama and that person will lose my attention. I thank you for putting the focus where it needs to be which is of course the GOP!

  5. Steve Says:

I agree with Jake when he says the title of your next book should be “Conservative Comebacks to REPUBLICAN Lies”. Because, it is within Republican circles where the most important battles will be fought in the coming years. Not saying we should totally forget about Obama as sure fight him when we can but we can’t allow that fight to lose us the focus we must have. And the focus can not be Obama but must instead be within the GOP as if we lose there then everything else, Obama, the Democrats, mean nothing.

Republicans are going to try to entice us with anti-Obama rhetoric, and sure that rhetoric will be for the most part truthful, but of course the reason they will be doing it is, duh, to make us blindly support them without question. Well we have been down that road with W. and look at where it got us.

So, yeah, Obama’s bad but lets move beyond that and focus on where the real important battles must be fought. First win back the GOP and then we can discuss how bad Obama is. For if we don’t focus on first defeating the bad people in the GOP then even if we do somehow win against Obama we will look back to see how we really lost.

Conservative Combacks to REPUBLICAN lies. Let’s put the focus on where the focus needs to be.

By the way, I know your show does put the focus where it needs to be and moves beyond the “Obama’s bad” mantra we get from the Hannity and Limbaugh types. And I want to thank you for of course the question isn’t whether Obama’s bad or not because of course he is. The question is how are we now supposed to put our trust back into the hands of the GOP to run this country when they have proved that they are not all that much different?
